UK Extends CE Marking Recognition for GB Products: What You Must Know

The UK government’s CE marking extension allows manufacturers to continue using the CE mark for products placed on the Great Britain market under 21 specific product regulations. This means you can sell CE-marked goods in GB without switching immediately to the UKCA mark, reducing dual testing and certification costs.
The UK has confirmed indefinite recognition of CE marking for 21 product regulations. However, sector-specific exceptions (like medical devices, construction products, marine, and rail equipment) still follow their own transition timelines, so manufacturers should review UK government updates before shipping.
CE marking demonstrates compliance with EU safety, health, and environmental standards, while UKCA marking confirms compliance with UK regulations after Brexit. For now, both are accepted in Great Britain, but CE remains mandatory for the EU market, whereas UKCA applies only in GB.
The CE recognition does not apply to certain regulated sectors, including: Medical Devices Construction Products Marine Equipment Rail Products Cableways Unmanned Aircraft Systems Transportable Pressure Equipment Businesses in these sectors must comply with separate UK or international certification routes.
Exporters should: Map which regulations cover their products (21 CE-recognised vs. restricted sectors). Keep valid CE documentation and declarations for EU trade. Adopt UKCA documentation in parallel for long-term GB operations. Use automated compliance tools like Acquis Compliance to track regulatory updates and prevent market delays.
